The NEW Adidas Adizero Adios Pro

Repost: Copied From Running Magazine

Adidas releases adizero adios Pro, their fastest marathon shoe yet

Complete with five carbon-infused rods and LightstrikePRO midsole, this shoe doesn't actually have a carbon plate per se

Adidas announced this week that its fastest marathoning shoe yet will drop on June 30. The adizero adios Pro is the company’s newest carbon-plated shoe – with a twist. Complete with five carbon-infused rods and LightstrikePRO midsole, this shoe doesn’t actually have a carbon plate per se.

This evolution of the adios Pro got started over a decade ago when Haile Gebrselassie shattered his own marathon world record in Berlin, running his personal best of 2:03:59, in the first version of the shoe. The protoype of this new iteration of the adios Pro made its racing debut at the 2020 Houston Half-Marathon, where the shoe was on the feet of Philemon Kiplimo and Abel Kipchumba, both Adidas athletes who finished in 59:28 and 59:35 respectively, for fourth and fifth place.

Twelve years later, the adios Pro is highly evolved and ready to take on the roads.

Like other companies, Adidas received lots of feedback from its professional runners, who include half-marathon world record-holder Joyciline Jepkosgei and 10K world record-holder Rhonex Kipruto. Their collaboration with Adidas is how the energy rods were born. Instead of the traditional full-slab carbon plate, energy rods are finger-like carbon sticks that move like the metatarsals in the foot. The rods are supposed to allow runners to maintain their speed for longer, optimize running economy and create less impact on the body. After all, marathoning is all about efficiency.

The LightstrikePRO midsole is the company’s lightest and most-responsive material yet. Coupled with a carbon fibre heel plate for ankle stabilization, this shoe has some extremely innovative features that runners will be super excited to check out. At only 220 grams, this shoe will certainly be on the feet of many marathoners this fall. The adizero adios Pro becomes available in limited release on Tuesday, June 30
Retail price will cost S200.00

2020 Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race Is Cancelled!

The following is the message of Chris Kostman, Race Director & Organizer of the Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race to the Participants of the 2020 Badwater 135-Mile Race to be held on July 6-8, 2020:

I have been transparent with you all along, so you are hearing these news first:
It is with the deepest regret that I must tell you that the 2020 Badwater 135 Ultramarathon - held annually since 1987 - will not take place this year as we had hoped, planned, and intended.
I am literally shocked and heartbroken to even make this announcement, especially just ten days before our race, but the events and trends of this week force this announcement. I apologize profusely from the bottom of my heart for the heartbreak and disappointment, as well as for the massive inconvenience this causes for so many.
It goes without saying that we are living in unprecedented times, with a global pandemic like nothing our planet has seen in a century. However I have believed all along that we could "thread the needle" with the timing - and location - of our event allowing us to pull it off, and until this week, all signs pointed to that dream becoming a reality.
This week several factors came about which forced the winds to blow in a different direction: As you know, it was just Tuesday evening when the National Park Service informed us that they expected to be able to issue a permit for the event. (Other permits had just been finalized in the days prior.)
Wednesday morning an earthquake rocked the Lone Pine area, causing a landslide which closed our finish line area at Whitney Portal and the road below it for several miles. Search & Rescue teams are looking for victims, while geologists will assess this weekend whether it is safe to re-open the road and area.
But then, as we remained hopeful that the road to our finish line would re-open for the race, we learned the troubling news that new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Inyo County, for the first time in many weeks with no new cases. Additionally, U.S. coronavirus cases set a new highest single-day tally on Wednesday, and then again yesterday, while case numbers spiked higher and higher in New York, Florida, Texas, Nevada, and elsewhere - and these are all places from which runners and crew members would be traveling for the race. And in California, hospitalizations have increased 32% over the past 14 days and ICU hospitalizations are up 19%. Inyo County is a rural area with only a few small hospitals and can’t handle any kind of surge.
With all of this in the news, today we had a difficult phone call with the National Park Service, after they had had one with Public Health officials, and it became apparent that they - both the NPS and Inyo County - are very concerned with the event bringing people to the region from all over the country. It also became clear that it was increasingly likely that we would have one or more of our event permits cancelled next week. Any assurances of the event being allowed to happen fell away during the call.
The only thing worse than announcing the event cancellation today would be to do so next week when some or all of the participants were in the area. (I know a few are already en route. I'm extra sorry for them.) I am still awaiting an official statement from DVNP about the cancellation, but I didn't want you all to wait any longer to know.
We love Inyo County, Death Valley National Park, the Inyo National Forest, and everyone who lives and works there. We never want to be anything but a positive addition to Inyo County and something fun and positive and life-affirming that takes place there annually. As such, in concert with the National Park Service, Inyo County, the Badwater Medical Director, and others, I must announce the cancellation of the 2020 Badwater 135.
All 103 2020 Badwater 135 entrants will be guaranteed entry next year and you will receive the 2020 Badwater 135 Official Finishers Buckle when you cross the line in 2021. The 2021 edition is scheduled for July 19-21, 2021. Pre-ordered Class 3 shirts and Biffy Bags will be held for next year. I'll post a fuller statement more broadly on FB and on our website - and send it out via email - shortly. I apologize again for these horrible news. Chris Kostman

Update: 2020 Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race (June 26, 2020)

Will the Course Record of Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race Be Broken This Year?

The New Course Records for the Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race was set in last year's edition (2019) by Yoshihiko Ishikawa of Japan with a time of 21:33:01 hours and by Patrycja Bereznowska of Poland with a Finish Time of 24:13:24 hours.

                                                         Picture Taken From The Internet

It was in the 2002 edition of the event that a Woman, Pamela Reed, won the Overall Championship in this Race with a time of 27:56:47 hours and she repeated such feat in the succeeding year of 2003 with a time of 28:26:52 hours beating Dean Karnazes by 25 minutes. Dean Karnazes would come back the next year  (2004) to be the Overall Champion in the event.

My fearless forecast in this year's edition is for Camille Herron to win the Overall Championship of this event with a New Course Record and For The Fastest Woman and be the 2nd Woman to Win the event after 17 years!

This year's event will be exciting!

2020 Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race

Starting today, June 22, 2020, I will use this blog/website for the updates leading to the start of the 2020 Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race which will be held on July 6-8, 2020 at the Death Valley Park in California and being dubbed/tagged as the "Toughest Footrace In The World".

                                                      National Colors Of The Participants

The following are the reasons why I will be doing this effort is because of the following: (1) I used the Badwater 135-Mile Ultramarathon Race Rules and Regulations and its Concept as my Guide in the yearly conduct of the Bataan Death March 102 & 160K Ultramarathon Races and my other Road Races under the Bald Runner's Events and the Philippine Association of Ultrarunners' (PAU) Events; (2) I was the first one to inform our local runners through this blog on the conduct of this event and I even went personally to the event's site and course to observe the said event and its runners; (3) I have been a member of a Support Crew and Pacer of a Local Runner-Participant in the event two years ago; (4) There are four (4)  Filipino Runners who will be joining this year's event; and lastly, (5) One of my latest ultrarunning inspirations/idols and Facebook friend Mike McKnight will be aiming to be the Champion of this year's edition and I will be monitoring his progress, the same with the other Filipino Runners.

Race Bib For The Runners ("Faithful To The End")

This Ultramarathon is one of the running events that is NOT cancelled and through the latest updates by the Race Director on Facebook and in its website, it appears that it is a "GO" event despite the Covid-19 situation worldwide. Covid-19 Protocol Safety measures will be observed as more Waves of runners will be organized. This year's event, there will be 6-7 Waves of runners where each Wave of runner will start in every 30 minutes starting at 8:00 PM of July 6, 2020 at the Badwater Basin, Death Valley Park, California. In the past events, there were only three (3) Waves of runners. This increased number of Waves is a way to implement Social Distancing among the participants.

                                                                  Race Bib For The Pacer

For this year's edition, there are 100 participants ready to start the race in Badwater Basin, Death Valley Park, California. I hope that our Local Participants will be able to join this event.

I will be posting the event's updates as soon as announcements will be published. Thank you for reading.

Last June 13, 2020, under the leadership of the Commanding General, Philippine Army Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay AFP had extended help to all the Locally Stranded Passenger of Local Flights coming from Manila and going to the different destination within the country. These passengers were seen to be staying and sleeping, waiting for their scheduled flights, under the Skyway near the Ninoy Aquino International Terminal #3. Some of them are reported to be OFWs who arrived in Manila and in bound to their respective provinces in the South.

The stranded passengers were taken by the Army's buses and trucks from where they were staying and were brought to the Philippine Army Gymnasium. They were given proper accommodation and food during their stay in the said facility.

After almost one week of stay in the Philippine Army Gymnasium, they were finally brought back to the Airport Terminal after General Gapay had made the necessary travel arrangements with their respective Air Flight carriers.

Army sends off 102 locally stranded individuals to NAIA Flight (Press Release From the Headquarters Philippine Army)

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - The Philippine Army sent off 102 locally stranded individuals (LSIs) to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for their confirmed flights today, June 19, 2020.

The Army coordinated with airline companies to schedule the flight of some of the LSIs temporarily sheltered at the Philippine Army Wellness Center (PAWC). Aside from the flight today, 52 LSIs have already been sent to their respective flights since the Army started accommodating them.

As of writing, another 47 LSIs are currently being processed and will first undergo an initial screening and COVID-19 rapid testing prior to accommodation.

Angel Locsin & Body Positivity

As I browse on the Internet yesterday morning, I came across a picture of Angel Locsin with a heavier body form and she looked to have added weight as compared to the pictures of her that I have seen last year and on the early part of this year. I immediately thought of looking back to the picture that I have with her. I knew that I was able to post the picture in my old blog and I was able to find it. The picture was taken on the last week of November 2009 when I saw her join a fun run sponsored by McDonalds. Actually, the picture was taken after we finished the event. And sometime in the past I saw movies where she starred and she got famous for portraying the local super heroine "Darna" and in other TV drama series in one of the biggest TV networks in the country. Comparing her body figure before and now is a big difference that I felt shocked about her body transformation.

After I posted my blog and photo video on YouTube, some of my friends sent me some messages telling me that she has some sickness or body problem and that is the reason why she can not move her body a lot and could not even do some exercises. Later, I found out an article on Google where a TV Talk Show personality asked her why she gained weight. She admitted in the said TV interview that she had a spine injury since 2015 and she is slowly recovering for the past years but it was a painful process because her movements were limited that she could not do some workout and exercises. She ignored her bashers on body shaming and she said that she concentrates more on her charity works and be happy with her daily life.

For the past 24 hours, Angel's fans and supporters rallied behind her when pictures of her at the present time became viral on the Internet in order to defend her. Her fans and supporters talked and defended her by using the words "body positivity". What impressed me since yesterday is that the good PR for Angel Locsin is really working with lots of her fans and supporters defending her in the printed media, online news platforms, and in Social Media. You Tube Channels (to include me as a "newbie") had been enjoying posting videos of the pictures of Angel Locsin from the past and from the present. Most of these videos are informational and supports the plight of the actress.

Personally, I was surprised to see her latest pictures posted in the Internet and tried to find out what went wrong with her since the time that I first met her in November 2009. Since that personal meeting, I have been a fan of her in her movies and TV Movie Series. It was only yesterday that I found out about her spine injury that she could barely move her body. For the past months when this Covid-19 Pandemic started, Angel Locsin was there to help to raise funds in support to the Government's effort to fight such virus. She even went to the extent of acquiring and distributing PPEs to our Frontliners. In short, she was very visible in her Charity works to help those people who in need during these times that we are in this Covid-19 situation. I really like her as a Movie & TV Personality and being a philanthropist in her civilian capacity.

Hereunder is the definition on "Body Positivity" as taken from the famous publication, Psychology Today:

How do you define body positivity?

Mallorie Dunn: To me, body positivity means accepting the body you have as well as the changes in shape, size, and ability it may undergo due to nature, age, or your own personal choices throughout your lifetime. It's the understanding that your worth and what's going on with you physically are two separate entities — that no matter what's happening inside, outside, or to your body, you're still just as worthwhile as the person next to you.

Kaila Prins: I like to think that body positivity's intention is really body acceptance. The idea that you can live comfortably in your body, as it is right now, or work on treating it right through nourishment and joyful movement and self care without punishing yourself for looking the way you do.

[According to the data crunchers at Whisper, 35.1 percent define body positivity as "being okay with flaws;" 29.3 percent define it as "loving yourself;" 21.1 percent define it as "being confident;" and 14.5 percent of users define it as "appreciating your body."]

How does someone become body positive?

Connie Sobczak: To be body positive, it is important to assume responsibility for figuring out what your body needs. In many ways, this feels harder than having an external "expert" voice tell you what to eat and how to move.

But playing with the word "responsibility" makes it much less intimidating: response ability simply becomes the ability to respond to the stimuli present. In this case, it is the ability to respond to sensations of hunger or fullness and the need for movement or rest.

The Last Annual Heart Of The South Road Race (326 Miles)

The Last Annual Heart Of The South Road Race (326 miles)

This is the latest Road Race which is being organized and directed by Barkley Marathon's RD Lazarus Lake. It is simply called by its abbreviation---HOTS! It says about the condition and temperature that the runners will experience during their journey to the Finish Line. It started today (June 18, US Time) and it will end on June 28, 2020. It will take 10 days for the participants to finish the race on Self-Support or with a Support Vehicle and Crew.. I hope I will make the necessary updates in this blog as the race progresses. This is the FIRST Edition of this race. I have yet to find out the number of participants of this inaugural edition of this race.

Hereunder is the course description the race which I copied from the website of UltraSignUp. I tried to click the link of the Event's Website but it appear that the Great Virtual Run Across America Website would pop-out.

The HOTS is a journey run across time and space. Following the old Lee Highway, the first transcontinental route in the southern US, it will begin in Arkansas, crossing the Mississippi River on the Harahan Bridge, the same bridge as the first travelers on the Lee Highway used in 1919

Along the route between the Arkansas start and the finish at Castle Rock, Georgia, high atop Sand Mountain, the course will travel across rural Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama, passing thru numerous small sleepy southern towns. The participant will walk in the footsteps of history, walking everything from old Indian trails to stagecoach roads; from the Natchez Trace to the Trail of Tears. They will walk the ground trod by the soldiers who fought in campaigns of the Civil War and the Indian wars. They will pass through Huntsville’s Tech Town, where man’s first walk on the moon was planned using slide rules, and today’s trips across, and beyond, the solar system are accomplished with the most modern computer equipment. The runners can have lunch at a real soda fountain, in the oldest drugstore in Mississippi (opened by a confederate veteran after the war) and eat at lunch counters with men who plan trips into space.

For the lovers of Geology, the trip will cover a fascinating range of features, from the alluvial plain of the Mississippi to the top of Sand Mountain, crossing features like the Cumberland Plateau and the Sequatchie Valley.

Every journey run is an adventure, and this one has been laid out to provide a surprise around every corner. But the biggest surprise is what the runners find in themselves along the way.

Runners will park at the finish and be transported by tour buses to the start in Arkansas. After an overnight stay in a hotel, the field will be bused to the start the following morning. Daily tracking will be maintained, and runners wishing to drop will be transported back to their vehicles. Finishers will be shuttled with their vehicles to motels near the finish for a safe sleep before getting behind the wheel.

Happy 159th Birthday, Dr Jose Rizal!

Today, June 19, 2020, is the 159th Birthday of Dr Jose Rizal, the National Hero of my country, Philippines. He was born in the town of Calamba, Laguna in 1861 and he died of execution by firing squad by the Spanish Forces on December 30, 1896. He was convicted of rebellion, sedition and conspiracy and was sentenced to death.

He is considered as the Philippines National Hero and declared as such during the US/American Occupation in the country in the early 1900s. His death sparked the Filipinos to revolt against the rule of the Spanish in the country until the US Forces invaded the Philippines during the Battle of Manila Bay on August 13, 1898.

What Happened To Angel Locsin?

As I opened my account on Twitter today, June 19, 2020 (Friday), I was surprised to see Angel Locsin becoming viral on the said Social Media Platform and browsed on the posts as to why she is the "viral personality" for today. In one of the posts on Twitter, I saw the pictures that was posted on her present situation or body form and I was amazed on how she changed from the time I first saw her in one of the weekly road races at BGC in December 2009. At that time, she just finished a 5K Run in one of the weekly races being sponsored by McDonald's.

I will be posting here the picture that was taken with her after the race and those pictures of her being posted on Twitter at the present. Another friend of mine on Facebook sent me a picture of Angel Locsin and he confirmed that Angel Locsin had gained weight. The picture was taken from a TV Program from Channel 7 GMA being hosted by Angel Locsin entitled "Iba Yan". The TV Program will feature individuals who are helping other people in their dire needs.

The following are the pictures comparing her figure in 2009 and then to the present.

How To Start Running

Running is the simplest form of exercise and sports. All you need to do is alternately step on your legs or foot, one time from another, while your body bounce up and down from the ground. It is also the cheapest sports where you only need a sneakers or rubber shoes. You can do it in your backyard or on the street in front of your house or for a longer distance, around the street block where you are residing. You can jog (slow running) easily until you are comfortable with your breathing and rhythm.

Usually, one has to start by walking. Walking everyday for 30 minutes will initially develop your pace of your steps and the rhythm of your breathing. It is important that while you are walking, you should be able to breath properly. Depending on your intensity and pace of walking, your breathing will increase considerably. While you are walking, your arms should swing forward and backward while you keep your steps in motion. You will observe that once you step on your right foot, the left arm would move forward and with the left foot forward, the right arm moves forward. Because you start by walking, you will observe that the heel portion of your foot should be the first one to hit the ground in every step. This is normal and if it is done repeatedly for 30 minutes, you are doing a good job.

If you are comfortable walking for 30 minutes continuously in the early morning or in the late afternoon, it will take a few days of this daily routine that your movement will become easy and automatic. Don't rush and just take it easy and enjoy your walking. Maybe, after a few days or one week, you can now experiment on a slow jog by lifting your legs from the ground with a quick movement and stepping them on the ground in quick succession. Just lift those feet a few inches from the ground and fold your arms at at 90-degree angle with your upper and lower arm, stand erect with your face looking a few meters ahead, and then you can take successive steps while your body bounce up and down from the ground. After a few days of jogging, you can now lift your legs higher and do some steps with a higher rate or speed, and with a longer stride. And for all you know, you will be running. However, since you are just starting on running, you can alternately do walking and jogging, and try to feel and "listen to your body". Just remember to breath properly and develop some sort of rhythm or beat with your steps/strides and your breathing.

Depending on what type of body form, whether you have more weight in your body or not, you will easily adjust to running. Just remember to start by walking and then progressively go on jogging, and then you will be running with higher number of steps and longer with your strides in the days to come. Allot 30 minutes of your time to do this and you will be happy that you can do an exercise which is beneficial to your health and well-being.

What are you waiting for? Put on those sneakers and get out from your door!
